How Scepter Uses Artificial Intelligence
Scepter Publishers exists to help people grow in their faith and find God in their daily lives. The books, podcasts, and videos we make for that purpose are the work of people, offered in service of the human person.
In his encyclical Magnifica Humanitas (2026), Pope Leo XIV reminds us that technology isn’t a solution to humanity's problems, and it isn’t evil either. It takes on the character of the people who design and use it. He calls Christians to remain deeply human in this new era, safeguarding a dignity "the splendor of which no machine can ever replace."
That’s how we approach AI. It’s a tool our people use, not a replacement for them. Here’s where it does and doesn’t show up in our work.
Books
Our books are written by human authors, edited by human editors, and translated by human translators. Some use AI-based tools along the way, like grammar checkers, or machine translation as a first draft that a translator then reworks. Human professionals remain responsible for the final text and every editorial decision.
Theological Review
Every book we publish is reviewed by Catholic priests for fidelity to Church teaching, and goes through the imprimatur process when Church law requires it. We do not entrust that judgment to AI.
Book Covers
People design our book covers. While it is not typical for us to use AI-generated imagery in our book covers, our human designers have used AI-generated imagery on the following book cover:
- A Boy-Sized Cross
Audiobooks
We prefer human narration. For some titles, though, it would be financially infeasible, and the book would otherwise have no audio edition. In those cases, we use AI narration so we can still reach listeners and give them an audiobook option. We don’t use it to cut costs on titles that could support a human narrator, and our editors check every AI-narrated audiobook before release.
Podcasts and Videos
We use AI tools for audio cleanup, captions, and technical editing.
Looking Ahead
The technology will keep changing, and so will the Church's guidance on it. We'll update this page as it does. If you have questions, write to us at info@scepterpublishers.org.
