Este texto comienza con la intervención definitiva de Dios en la historia humana en la Persona de su Hijo y continúa hasta nuestros días. Muestra cómo Dios ha actuado a través de los miembros de la Iglesia para promover su misión salvífica. Examina la vida de los santos y cómo ellos – al cooperar con la gracia de Dios – ayudaron a moldear la vida de la Iglesia, así como la sociedad y la cultura cristianas.

Con este volumen la Colección Didajé para la nueva evangelización brinda una aportación muy notable con la que recorrer esta historia de gracia y misericordia que es la vida de la Iglesia. El autor hace una exposición sintética que ofrece el acontecer de la historia eclesial con uniformidad, distinguiendo lo importante de lo que no es tanto, con una pedagogía didáctica muy significativa, a mi modo de ver.
Recomiendo vivamente este texto que será de gran ayuda en escuelas y colegios, en parroquias, asociaciones y movimientos, y en la pastoral universitaria. Conocer la historia de la Iglesia es siempre motivo para descubrir la acción concreta —histórica— y providencial de Dios entre los hombres y evita convertir a nuestro Dios en una pura idea. Como conclusión, después de felicitar al autor y agradecerle su generoso esfuerzo, me atrevo a decir que el objetivo de esta obra está condensado en la máxima específica cristiana ex præterito spes in futurum. Es decir, la esperanza está en la historia y el hombre al mirarse en ella se abrirá al futuro, conforme a las magistrales palabras de san Agustín: «También nosotros mismos seremos el Día séptimo, el Día más allá del tiempo»

In conclusion, after congratulating the author and thanking him for his generous effort, I would venture to say that the aim of this work is encapsulated in the distinctively Christian maxim *ex præterito spes in futurum*. That is to say, hope lies in history; by looking at that history, man opens himself to the future, in accordance with the masterful words of Saint Augustine: "We ourselves shall also be the seventh Day, the Day beyond time."

Rev. Peter V. Armenio was ordained a priest of the Prelature of Opus Dei in 1980 and currently serves as the Vicar of Opus Dei for the Midwest (USA). Fr. Armenio received a doctorate in philosophy from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in 1996. He has served as the chaplain of Lexington Institute, Willows Academy, and Northridge Preparatory High School in the Archdiocese of Chicago and has worked in campus ministry for several years. He has written these books published by MTF: Our Moral Life in Christ (semester, complete course, and college editions), The History of the Church (semester and complete course editions), and The Mystery of Redemption and Christian Discipleship.
