To all the moms reading this– thank you for all that you do. From the whole Scepter team, we wish you a very happy Mother’s Day!
With the great gift of motherhood comes sacrifice and service. Motherhood is filled with highs and lows, joys and sorrows, triumphs and defeats. This Mother’s Day, we want to encourage all mothers to look to Mary, the mother of Jesus and our mother, for inspiration and guidance as they live out this beautiful and important vocation each and every day!
Lessons from Mary for today’s mothers:
- Accept the gift of motherhood with an open heart.
Becoming a mother can present so many different emotions, and that is completely normal. Even Mary had questions for the angel Gabriel when she found out she was going to be the mother of Jesus. But, despite her questions, Mary accepted God’s will with an open heart. May all mothers be granted the grace to accept new life and say yes to God’s plan, just as Mary did at the Annunciation.
- Encourage your children to be who God created them to be.
At the wedding feast at Cana, Mary tells Jesus that the wine has run out. Even though Jesus says, “My hour has not yet come,” Mary’s influence leads Jesus to perform his first public miracle. The story not only shows us the power of Mary’s intercession, but also points to the special influence a mother has on her child. Like Mary, may all mothers encourage their children to do great things and live up to their great potential as children of God.
- Trust in God’s plan for your child.
One of the most difficult aspects of parenthood is trusting in God when our children are going through challenging stages or experiencing pain. It was no different for the Blessed Mother. Mary experienced extreme sorrow as she watched Jesus undergo his Passion. She felt intense heartache and anguish as she watched her child experience unthinkable pain. And yet, Mary did not try to stop this from happening, but instead trusted in God, understanding that through his suffering, Jesus would change the world. May God give all mothers the grace to adopt the radical trust of Mary as they watch their own children walk through life’s difficulties.
We hope that these lessons from Our Lady help you to grow in trust in God, love of your children, and peace in your vocation. For more inspiration, check out some of our favorite Marian titles.
